Analysis Note | Triglycerides are the main constituent of vegetable oil and animal fat, and make up most of the fats digested by humans. Most natural fats contain a complex mixture of individual triglycerides. Therefore, efficient capillary GC columns are required for ample resolution and subsequent identification. Triglycerides are large compounds, and require a relatively high final oven temperature for GC analysis. For the analysis of triglycerides in extra virgin coconut oil, a short, thin film version of SLB-35ms (cut-down from a longer column) run to a final oven temperature of 380 ºC was found to provide good resolution and reasonable elution times. |
