General description

2-propanol is a clear, colorless, polar organic solvent commonly used in chemical and biochemical laboratories. It will dissolve a wide range of chemicals, and evaporates quickly. Isopropanol is commonly used in molecular biology for DNA and RNA extraction through precipitation. Unlike ethanol, which requires 2.5 times the volume of the nucleic acid-containing sample, isopropanol can be added in an equal volume. This causes precipitation to occur even without cooling, making it advantageous in reducing the overall volume of the sample. Moreover, it has applications in quantifying hydroxyproline levels, assessing cell viability through MTT assays, and contributing to microarray hybridization processes.

Application

2-Propanol has been used:
  • to precipitate genomic DNA extracted from flies
  • to precipitate genomic DNA extracted from xenograft primary tumors and organs
  • to immunoprecipitate 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdU)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Isopropanol (2-Propanol) is widely used in molecular biology for the precipitation of DNA during extraction from cells and tissues. BioUltra IPA is suitable for DNA precipitation.

Features and Benefits

  • Suitable as a reagent for Biochemical and Molecular Biology Research
  • BioUltra grade, meets strict purity standards through rigorous testing
  • Free from DNase, NICKase, RNase, and Protease
  • Tested to confirm low levels of heavy metal contamination, ensuring suitability for various applications
