General description

Iron(II) chloride tetrahydrate is a hydrated metallic halide. Crystal structure studies suggest that it crystallizes in monoclinic system having space group P21/c.

Application

A variety of organically templated iron phosphates, of interest because of their rich crystal chemistry and their ability to absorb large molecules in their micropores, were prepared using this compound.
Iron(II) chloride tetrahydrate (Ferrous chloride tetrahydrate, FeCl2·4H2O) has been used in the preparation of bentonite/iron nanoparticles.
It may be used in the following studies:
  • Preparation of composites of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/nano-iron oxide.
  • Preparation of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles.
  • Solid-phase synthesis of [Fe(phen)3]Cl2·nH2O (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline).4
