General description

The amino-terminal of actin may function as an antigen. The protein is expressed in the cytoplasm. There are about six isoforms of actin identified.

Immunogen

β-actin antibody was raised against a 16 amino acid peptide from near the carboxy-terminus of human β-actin.

Application

Anti-β-Actin antibody produced in chicken has been used for Western Blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Actin is a cytoskeletal protein that regulates cell motility, secretion, cytoplasmic streaming, phagocytosis and cytokinesis. Mutations in the gene encoding this protein have been associated with Baraitser-Winter cerebrofrontofacial syndrome.
