General description

Phosphatidic acid is obtained from glycerophospholipid with the help of phospholipase D. 14:0 PA/a negatively charged 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (DMPA) carries a phosphoric acid head group.

Application

14:0 PA may be used to prepare liposomes. It may also be used as a phospholipid (PL) standard to quantify phosphatidic acid (PA).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidic acid might serve as a modulator of phagocyte respiratory burst. It also acts as a precursor of diacylglycerol and lysophosphatidic acid.

The δ isozyme of diacylglycerol kinase (DGKδ) plays critical roles in lipid signaling by converting diacylglycerol (DG) to phosphatidic acid (PA). We previously demonstrated that DGKδ preferably phosphorylates palmitic acid (16:0)- and/or palmitoleic acid (16:1)-containing DG molecular species, but not
