General description

Anandamide is produced by the enzymatic hydrolysis of acyl phosphatidyl ethanolamides by phospholipase D.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Anandamide acts as a ligand for cannabinoid receptors.[2] Anandamide possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.[3] Its effect is regulated by cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors.[4]
