Application

1-heptadecanoyl-2-(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z-eicosatetraenoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-myo-inositol-4′;-phosphate) (ammonium salt) has been used:
  • as a lipid standard in ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS)
  • to spike into extracts of phosphoinositides (PIPs) brain sample for mass spectrometric characterization and quantification of PIPs
  • as an internal standard for lipid extraction from Drosophila retinae

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P) acts as substrate for phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate 5-kinase (PIP5K) enzymes. This accounts for the formation of phosphatidylinositol 4,5- bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), a membrane lipid, which aids in phospholipase C (PLC) signaling.

Phosphatidylinositol-5-phosphate (PI5P) is a low abundance lipid proposed to have functions in cell migration, DNA damage responses, receptor trafficking and insulin signalling in metazoans. However, studies of PI5P function are limited by the lack of scalable techniques to quantify its

Enhanced prostaglandin production promotes the development and progression of cancer. Prostaglandins are generated from arachidonic acid (AA) by the action of cyclooxygenase (COX) isoenzymes. However, how cancer cells are able to maintain an elevated supply of AA for prostaglandin production

There is increasing evidence that the lysosome is involved in the pathogenesis of a variety of neurodegenerative disorders. Thus, mechanisms that link lysosome dysfunction to the disruption of neuronal homeostasis offer opportunities to understand the molecular underpinnings of neurodegeneration and

The activation of phospholipase C (PLC) is a conserved mechanism of receptor-activated cell signaling at the plasma membrane. PLC hydrolyzes the minor membrane lipid phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P2], and continued signaling requires the resynthesis and availability of PI(4,5)P2 at the plasma

Lipids, such as phosphoinositides (PIPs) and diacylglycerol (DAG), are important signaling intermediates involved in cellular processes such as T cell receptor (TCR)-mediated signal transduction. Here we report identification and quantification of PIP, PIP2 and DAG from crude lipid extracts. Capitalizing
