General description

N-N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (BES) is a zwitterionic sodium sulphate buffer used in biochemistry and molecular biology research. BES buffer used as a secondary pH standard can help maintain a stable pH range in solutions, particularly in the range of 6.2-7.6 pH range of 6.6 to 7.4. It is used in a study to evaluate that buffers minimize the action of interfering factors in the bacterial endotoxins test. The application of BES as a buffer solution for calcium phosphate-mediated transfection of eukaryotic cells with plasmid DNA has also been studied.

Application

BES buffer has been used:

  • as a supplement in opti-minimal essential medium (MEM) culture media to culture thymocytes for In vitro analysis of thymocyte apoptosis
  • as a component of borate buffer saline (BBS) for adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector production, extraction, and purification
  • as a component of diluent one for semen collection and cryopreservation
