General description

Deuterated fatty acids experience exchange of the deuteriums on the alpha carbon to the carbonyl, i.e., C2 position, and will therefore be a mixture of compounds that are fully deuterated and partially deuterated at that position.

Application

1-palmitoyl-d31-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (16:0-d31-18:1 PE) has been used as an internal standard in yeast lipid profiling. It may be used for the preparation of liposomes. It may also be used to label human gastric cell line (AGS) cells to determine the level of deuterium-labelled cholesteryl 6′-acyl (CAG) and 6′-phosphatidyl α-glucosides (CPG).

Helicobacter pylori infects approximately half of the human population and is the main cause of various gastric diseases. This pathogen is auxotrophic for cholesterol, which it converts upon uptake to various cholesteryl α-glucoside derivatives, including cholesteryl 6'-acyl and 6'-phosphatidyl α-glucosides

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is an inherited disorder caused by deleterious mutations in the ABCD1 gene. The ABCD1 protein transports very long-chain FAs (VLCFAs) from the cytosol into the peroxisome where the VLCFAs are degraded through β-oxidation. ABCD1 dysfunction leads to
