Application

High molecular weight poly-γ-glutamic acid (γPGA) was found to increase levels of NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity and INF-γ secretion in C57BL/6 mice. Biodegradable γ-PGA nanoparticles have been evaluated for use as antigen delivery carriers and delivery of influenza virus hemagglutin (HA) vaccine. Additional life science applications for γ-PGA include uses in biodegradable fibers and nanofiber sheets, hydrogels, and cryoprotectants.

Other Notes

High molecular weight poly-γ-glutamic acid is a polymer of glutamic acid connected by amide linkages between α-amino and γ-carboxylic acid groups. γ-PGA is produced by fermentation in Bacillus species. The subunits are predominantly L-isomer.

This review article deals with the chemistry and biosynthesis of poly-(gamma-glutamic acid) (gamma-PGA) produced by various strains of Bacillus. Potential applications of gamma-PGA as thickener, cryoprotectant, humectant, drug carrier, biological adhesive, flocculant, or heavy metal absorbent, etc. with biodegradability in

We analyzed the in vivo tumor regression activity of high molecular mass poly-gamma-glutamate (gamma-PGA) from Bacillus subtilis sups. chungkookjang. C57BL/6 mice were orally administered 10-, 100-, or 2000-kDa gamma-PGA or beta-glucan (positive control), and antitumor immunity was examined. Our results

Ultra-high-molecular-weight poly-gamma-glutamic acid (gamma-PGA) is a most promising biodegradable polymer that is produced by Bacillus subtilis (chungkookjang). Attractive properties of gamma-PGA are that it is water soluble, anionic, biodegradable, and edible. Development of gamma-PGA has pursued in terms of cosmetics/skin
