General description

Rutheneum (Ru) and sodium persulfate (SPS) have the ability to effectively generate free radicals in the 400-450nm visible light range, allowing for cell-friendly photo-crosslinking of a variety of hydrogels. Among the materials that can be crosslinked via this method are the natturally derived and biocompatible biomaterials silk fibroin and gelatin . These materials can be used to enhance the mechanical and rheological properties to aid the 3D bioprinting workflow.

Application

Sodium persulfate is provided at an optimized concentration for 3D bioprinting applications. It can be used to bioprint via extrusion based 3D bioprinting cell-laden hydrogels in desired shapes and without any supporting materials. Crosslinking of the 3D printed structures is done in one step using visible light. The crosslinked cell-laden bioinks can be further culutred and use for tissue engineering and regenerative medicina applications.
Low Endotoxin, low bioburden: Endotoxins have been demonstrated negatively impact cellular growth, morphology, differentiation, inflammation and protein expression. Bioburden is defined as the number of contaminated organisms found in a given amount of material. We test each lot for endotoxins as well as total bioburden (aerobic and fungal) to minimize unwanted interactions. In this study, the cyto-compatibility and cellular functionality of cell-laden gelatin-methacryloyl (Gel-MA) hydrogels fabricated using a set of photo-initiators which absorb in 400-450 nm of the visible light range are investigated. Gel-MA hydrogels cross-linked using ruthenium (Ru) and sodium persulfate
