General description

1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone is a dipolar aprotic solvent widely used in organic chemistry for its ability to dissolve many chemicals. It is commonly used as a solvent or eluent for extracting soluble materials from soil samples using size-exclusion chromatography. NMP is a highly polar liquid and can be used for solvent extraction of polar substances from non-polar substances.

Application

  • Delivery of atovaquone and proguanil across sublingual membranes, in vitro.: This study explores the sublingual delivery of the antimalarial drugs atovaquone and proguanil, using 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as a solubilizing agent to enhance drug permeability. Results demonstrate NMP′s potential to improve drug delivery efficiency through sublingual membranes (Wallace et al., 2012).

  • Controlled delivery of aspirin: effect of aspirin on polymer degradation and in vitro release from PLGA based phase sensitive systems.: This research investigates the controlled release of aspirin from poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) systems using NMP. The study highlights NMP′s role in modulating polymer degradation and drug release profiles, offering insights for developing controlled delivery systems (Tang and Singh, 2008).
