General description

N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) is an amide that works as a multipurpose reagent that is an effective polar solvent for various compounds and a ligand for metallic compounds. It also acts as a key intermediate as an electrophilic or nucleophilic agent for mediating reactions as it delivers its own H, C, N, and O atoms in compound synthesis.

Application

DMF is a widely used polar solvent in which organic, organometallic, and bioorganic transformations are carried out. It is also a solvent for many hydrophobic organic compounds and acts as a source of building blocks in various organic synthesis reactions.
