General description

Interferon beta is a type I IFN regulatory cytokine belonging to a conserved family of secreted proteins that have demonstrated growth-inhibitory, immunomodulatory and antiviral properties. Due to these properties, the type I IFNs have been of considerable interest and use in various clinical functions. Studies have shown Interferon beta to be a potent immunomodulator and tumor growth suppressor through the down-regulation of MGMT. Also, there has been great interest in this cytokine as a possible approach to gene therapy for patients infected with AIDS.

Specificity

Rhesus monkey and chimpanzee (91% sequence homology).
This antibody recognizes Interferon beta.

Bioactivity
1.2 x 10^5 Units @ 6.0 x 10^5 Neutralization Units/mL

Immunogen

Epitope: Internal Domain
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the internal domain of human Interferon beta.

Application

Detect Interferon Beta using this Anti-Interferon Beta Antibody validated for use in WB, NEUT, IH(P).
Neutralizing Activity Assay Analysis: One unit of neutralization activity is defined as the amount of antibody serum required to inactivate one unit of Interferon Beta activity in a viral resistant assay, i.e., VSV virus and MDBK cell line (Rubinstein S. Familletti, P.C. and Pestka S. Journal of Virology, 1981, 37:755-758). Neutralization activity is measured by the inhibition of VSV infection of MDBK cells in the presence and absence of the neutralization antibody (ability of the antibody to block interferon′s protection of MDBK from VSV infection). This antibody has a neutralization activity of 6.0 x 10^5 units/mL. (Note: Interferon Beta response is species specific)

Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin) Analysis: A 1:500 dilution from a previous lot detected Interferon Beta in benign prostate tissue.

Storage and Stability

Stable for 1 year at -20°C from date of receipt.
Handling Recommendations: Upon receipt and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
