General description

Manganese(II) oxide is an inorganic compound with the formula MnO that adopts the cubic rock-salt crystal structure with octahedral Mn2+ coordinating with octahedral O2-. Our 99% pure MnO is a green powder sieved through a 60 mesh (250 microns). Synthetically, it is a useful source of Mn2+ and is used in the battery industry as a precursor for manganese-containing cathode materials, like lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide. It is also used in the semiconductor industry for fabricating thin-film transistors and other electronic devices. Because it is paramagneticat room temperature and considered to have good biocompatibility, MnO is alsoused in biomedical research in the development of contrast agents for magneticresonance imaging (MRI).
