General description

Tat-beclin 1, a peptide, is derived from a segment of the autophagy protein beclin 1, which binds to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 Nef. It serves as a potent inducer of autophagy. It interacts with GAPR-1 (GLIPR2), a recently identified negative regulator of autophagy. Tat-beclin 1 has been found to reduce the accumulation of polyglutamine expansion protein aggregates and the replication of various pathogens (including HIV-1) in vitro. Moreover, it has demonstrated the ability to decrease mortality in mice infected with chikungunya or West Nile virus.
