General description

The product is chloroform and it contains 0.5-1.0% ethanol as a stabilizer. Chloroform, a halogenated hydrocarbon, is widely employed as a solvent. Kinetics and mechanism of its photochemical degradation have been investigated in the presence of TiO2 aqueous suspensions (wavelength range of 310-380nm). Chloroform is a common groundwater pollutant. Its degradation by hydrodechlorination in the presence of Pd and Pd-Au catalysts and by dechlorination induced by glow discharge plasma (GDP) in contact with a sodium sulfate solution have been reported.

Application

Chloroform has been employed as a solvent for loading of pyocyanin on TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) plate in a study. It can also be used as an extraction solvent in the determination of sodium dodecyl sulfate, via flow injection extraction method.
