General description

Connexin 43 belongs to the connexin protein family that forms gap junction. This protein is highly expressed in neurons and radial glia during development and in astrocytes in adult brains.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Connexin 43.

Immunogen Range: 332-381

Application

Anti-Connexin 43, C-Terminal antibody produced in rabbit has been used in flow cytometry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

In rodents, connexin-43 (Cx-43) shows specific temporal patterns of expression during brain development. Experimental studies reveal that, connexin-43 expression increases in the brain during sheep ontogenesis. This protein might play a crucial role in neuronal migration as it resides in radial glial fibers which are closely associated with migrating neurons. It is also involved in transmembrane NAD+ transport. connexin-43, which is an element of gap junction, helps in cell–cell communication. Cx-43 is known to induce [Ca2+] i burst phenomenon in uterine artery endothelial cells (UAECs).

Gap junctions are specialized membrane structures that mediate intercellular communication and facilitate passage of ions and small molecules between adjacent cells. Connexins comprise a multigene family of transmembrane proteins that form gap junctions. Connexin-32 and connexin-43 are among the most
