General description

Fucoxanthin, an abundant marine xanthophyll and a type of sea-weed carotenoid, plays a key role in generating the brown pigment in brown seaweeds. It exhibits pharmacological properties including antitumor and antioxidant properties.[1][2]

Application

Fucoxanthin may be used as an analytical standard for the quantification of the analyte in Undaria pinnatifida using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) technique.[1][3] Its potential as a selective anticancer agent[1] and an active component for the anti-obesity effect in Undaria lipids[3] is investigated.
