General description

IgA antibody is secretory antibody and is present abundantly in mucous linings of gastrointestinal, respiratory and genitourinary tracts, tears, colostrum and saliva. Thus secretory IgA contributes to the humoral defense mechanism against the pathogens on mucosal surfaces
Human IgA is purified from pooled normal human colostrum by fractionation and ion-exchange fractionation.

Application

Purified IgA may be used as a reference antigen, standard, blocking agent or coating protein in a variety of immunoassays including ELISA, dot immunobinding, immunoblotting, immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis. Other applications include starting materials for the preparation of immunogens and solidphase immunoadsorbents. IgA from human colostrum was used as a standard in ELISA (1 mg/ml) and gel electrophoresis.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute with buffered saline (150 mM sodium chloride).

IgA is the most prevalent antibody type on mucosal surfaces and the second most prevalent antibody in circulation, yet its role in immune defense is not fully understood. Here we show that IgA is carried inside cells during virus infection
