In the analytical testing industry, instruments are becoming more sensitive, and methods demand higher data quality. There are many factors to consider for achieving robust data using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), including sample preparation. Sample filtration is one of the easiest and most cost-effective types of sample preparation.
Here, we cover the most important factors to consider while choosing a filter membrane, including membrane material, to chemical compatibility, extractables and particle retention. Then, a case study is provided for choosing the right syringe filter device for sample preparation in the analysis of different per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water samples. PFAS analytical testing is a great example of highly complex methods with high sensitivity requirements, and also requires special considerations when it comes to choosing consumables. In this case, we show that polyethersulfone (PES) syringe filters, Nylon syringe filters, and Nylon syringe filters with a glass fiber pre-filter are all appropriate choices for sample preparation of PFAS samples.
In this webinar, we will cover:
Lindsay D. Lozeau, PhD
Research Scientist Analytical Sciences
Lindsay received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2017 and an MBA certificate in entrepreneurship in 2018 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where her thesis was focused on design and functional analysis of new antimicrobial therapeutics. She is a Senior Scientist in Analytical Sciences, focused on the development of new products in cut disc membranes, filtration hardware, and non-sterile Millex® syringe filter devices as well as the development of smart lab products and software. She is part of a team that is also responsible for producing customer-facing application content for launched products.
