General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG), an anionic phospholipid is a predominant component of the cell membrane.[1] It is localized in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplast in plants.[1] PG is synthesized by phosphatidic acid in E. coli.[2]

Application

12:0-13:0 PG has been used to study the lipid′s interaction with the membrane protein of interest.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol contributes to photosynthetic activity by maintaining the structural photosynthetic apparatus.[2] It is useful for the biosynthesis of cardiolipin.[1]
