Thiamethoxam is a neonicotinoid broad spectrumand systemic insecticide, which belongs to the subclass of thianicotinyls. It can find applications in controlling the growth of sucking insects like aphids, whiteflies, and rice hoppers by acting on the acetylcholine nicotinic receptors.

Thiamethoxam is the first commercial neonicotinoid insecticide from the thianicotinyl subclass. It was discovered in the course of our optimisation program on neonicotinoids started in 1985.
