General description

This Standard Reference Material (SRM) is low alloy steel in the form of chips sized to pass through sieve openings between 0.50 mm and 1.18 mm (35 mesh to 16 mesh). It is intended primarily for use in evaluation of chemical and instrumental methods of analysis of steel and materials of similar matrix. It should not be used for calibration. A unit of SRM 2166 consists of one bottle containing approximately 150 g of chips. For more information, please refer to the COA and SDS.

Application

  • Dental materials and fluoride interaction: Research in Gels explored the influence of fluoride gels on dental materials, including those made from low alloy steel, indicating the material′s suitability for use in environments where chemical interactions are a concern, which is critical for applications in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research (Piszko et al., 2024).

  • Biofilm prevention on biometal surfaces: Recent Patents on Biotechnology detailed innovations in biofilm prevention on titanium and stainless steel surfaces, relevant for low alloy steel when considering its applications in biotech equipment that requires stringent hygiene and corrosion resistance (Pires et al., 2020).
