General description
Potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution is a strong alkali widely used in chemical synthesis. Van Slyke apparatus and Hildebrand adsorption technique have been utilized to determine the solubility of oxygen in different concentration of KOH solution.
Application
Potassium hydroxide solution may be used in the following processes:
- Depolymerization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) flakes.
- Synthesis of potassium bicarbonate and potassium carbonate.
- As an eluent in the nonsuppressor ion chromatography to separate and determine inorganic and organic anions.
- Saponification of fruit seed oil to determine tocopherols and tocotrienols.
