Application

Ala-Gln has been used:
  • as a supplement in NeuralQ medium
  • as a component in growth medium and incubation medium (IM) for retinal cell lines
  • for experimental treatment of retinal cell lines respectively

Biochem/physiol Actions

Alanyl-glutamine (Ala-Gln) is a dipeptide that is used as a substitute for glutamine in mammalian cell culture media, because of the instability of glutamine in solution and the formation of ammonia as a breakdown product of glutamine in solution, which can have deleterious effects on cells in culture. Ala-Glu is stable to heat sterilization and is less ammonia genic than glutamine, which contributes to its advantages as a media component. Ala-Gln has been utilized to investigate polymorphonuclear leucocyte and myeloperoxidase activity in vitro.

Analysis Note

This product is cell culture tested (0.5 mg/ml) and insect cell culture tested (0.2 mg/ml). It is appropriate for use in cell culture and insect cell culture applications at 2-10 mM.

This study tested the hypothesis that L-glutamine (Gln) or L-alanyl-L-glutamine (Ala-Gln) prevents oxidant- or endotoxin-induced death of neonatal enterocytes. Enterocytes of neonatal pigs rapidly hydrolyzed Ala-Gln and utilized Gln. To determine whether Gln or Ala-Gln has a cytoprotective effect, IPEC-1
