General description
Decanoic acid is a ten-carbon, saturated fatty acid. It is present in palm kernel, coconut fat and in milk fat.
Application
Decanoic acid is used in the preparation of ammonium decanoate (a surfactant) and for the preparation of disperse phase.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Decanoic acid is helpful in the attenuation of oxidative stress. Decanoic acid in ketogenic diet is involved in mitochondrial biogenesis thereby enhancing the citrate synthase and complex I activity of electron transport chain.
