Gene Information

human ... SGK1(6446)

General description

The serum- and glucocorticoid-regulated kinase (SGK1) is a member of the AGC kinase family and the gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 6q23.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The serum- and glucocorticoid-regulated kinase (SGK1) has a role in the hormonal regulation of ion channels and pumps. It has been associated with cancers. The protein modulates nitric oxide production by activating NO synthase. SGK1 protects cells from apoptosis and oxidative stress.
Kinase assays.
