Description
Analysis Note
Bergamot oil is used in cosmetic preparations such as perfumes and lotions, and in flavor formulations included in various candies and beverages. The cold-pressed oil is obtained by the rasping of the peel of the citrus bergamia fruit. The oil is commonly treated prior to use to remove furocoumarins and bergapten, which have the potential to cause advserse skin reactions. In addition, terpenes are often reduced or removed to enhance the desirable top-notes of the oil (1). This application illustrates the analysis of a sample of cold-pressed bergamot oil on the SLB-5ms.
