サフロールは、サッサフラスの根とビンロウジュ（キンマ）に含まれる天然の遺伝毒性化合物です。本化合物は肝発癌物質であり、また、サフロールDNA付加体はアレカ使用者の口腔癌で見られています。サフロール代謝物はDNAと付加体を形成し、染色体異常と姉妹染色分体交換を誘発します。
