The OPRD1 (opioid receptor δ1) gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p35.3 and encodes for a G-protein-coupled receptor. It is abundantly expressed in peripheral tissues.

Anxiolytic and antidepressant actions are brought about when specific agonists bind to the OPRD1 gene. δ-opioid receptor (DOR) is known to be involved in the progression and development of specific tumours (malignant). Upregulation of this gene is observed in breast cancer, and thus, it can serve as an important therapeutic marker.
