Fentanyl belongs to the class of synthetic opioids and shows potent μ-opioid receptor agonistic behavior. It is known for its anesthetic and analgesic properties and is known to be 100 times more potent than heroin. Sold under various trade names including Sublimaze, Duragesic^®, Actiq^®, and Fentora^®, fentanyl is more potent than morphine in analgesic activity.
