생화학적/생리학적 작용

Thymol (5-methyl-2-isopropylphenol), a monocyclic phenolic compound, is a vital constituent of Thymus vulgaris essential oil. It has been used in dental preparations to kill odor-producing bacteria. Thymol serves as a preservative through its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. In addition, thymol also has molluscicidal and insecticidal properties. Thymol acts as an allosteric modulator of human γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA_A) receptors.
