C9 (complement component 9) is a perforin-like protein that belongs to the membrane attack complex (MAC). The complex forms pores in the membrane of target pathogens . It is located on human chromosome 5p13 and has four domains . It has a 22-fold symmetrical arrangement, that generates an 88-strand pore-forming β-barrel .

Anti-C9 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in bead array immunoassay.

C9 (complement component 9) may play a major role in the formation of MAC (membrane attack complex) in the cytolytic reaction . It also plays an important role in the loss of nerve inflammation, a feature of AD (alzheimer′s disease) .
