Gene Information

human ... DSG3(1830)

General description

Desmoglein-3 (UniProt: P32926; also known as 130 kDa pemphigus vulgaris antigen, PVA, Cadherin family member 6) is encoded by the DSG3 (also known as CDHF6) gene (Gene ID: 1830) in human. Desmogleins are protein substances located in and on the surface of keratinocytes. They are present in specialized cell-cell adhesion structures enriched in tissues that undergo substantial mechanical stress. These proteins have been shown to be a critical factor in cell-to-cell adhesion. Desmoglein-3 is a single-pass type I membrane protein that is a component of intercellular desmosome junctions. It is involved in the interaction of plaque proteins and intermediate filaments mediating cell-cell adhesion. It is synthesized with a signal peptide (aa 1-23) and a propeptide (aa 24-49) that are cleaved off in the mature form. It contains an extracellular domain (aa 50-615), a transmembrane domain (aa 616-640), and a cytoplasmic domain (aa 641-999). Desmoglein-3 has four cadherin domains and two desmoglein repeats. This antibody (clone 5H10) recognized the extracellular domain of desmoglein-3.

Specificity

Clone 5H10 detects Desmoglein-3 in human cells. It targets an epitope with in the extracellular domain.
