General description

Potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate (Rochelle salt) exists in the ferroelectric phase in the temperature range of 255 to 297K. In this phase, it crystallizes in the monoclinic system and exhibits space group P21. Saturated aqueous solution of potassium sodium tartrate (Rochelle salt) has been used for the preparation of its tetrahydrate crystals.
Potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate is a ferroelectric crystal with a high piezoelectric effect and electromechanical coupling coefficient.

Application

Potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate has been used in the β-1,3-glucanase activity assay.
Potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate may be used as a component to prepare DNS (3,5- dinitrosalicylic acid) reagent and Fehling′s solution B, which are used in the determination of reducing sugar.

The accumulation of the pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins beta-1,3-glucanase and chitinase and structural defence responses were studied in leaves of wheat either resistant or susceptible to the hemibiotrophic pathogen Septoria tritici. Resistance was associated with an early accumulation of beta-1,3-glucanase and
