General description

Anti-cytokeratin 19 reacts with epithelia and epithelial malignancies including carcinomas of the colon, stomach, pancreas, biliary tract, liver, and breast. Anti-cytokeratin 19 is very useful in differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, especially in a combination of cytokeratin 7, CAM5.2, Ber-EP4/MOC31, Hep Par-1 and TTF1. Another useful application is the identification of thyroid papillary carcinoma.

Immunohistochemical markers of thyroid tumors can be divided into two major categories: those related to the cell types and those related to the type of pathology. The most important markers in the first category are thyroglobulin and TTF-1 for follicular
Richa Jain et al.
Applied immunohistochemistry & molecular morphology : AIMM, 18(1), 9-15 (2009-12-04)
Cytokeratin immunostaining forms the bedrock of the immunohistochemical evaluation of tumors. Cytokeratin 19 (CK19) belongs to a family of keratins, which are normally expressed in the lining of the gastroenteropancreatic and hepatobiliary tracts. CK19 immunohistochemistry has been used successfully in

Diagnostic pathology, 7, 97-97 (2012-08-15)
To distinguish between malignant and benign lesions of the thyroid gland histological demonstration is often required since the fine-needle aspiration biopsy method applied pre-operatively has some limitations. In an attempt to improve diagnostic accuracy, markers using immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry techniques
