Cell Line Description

Used in Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) transformation studies. Demonstrates rapid thymidine kinase (TK) activity following induction of simian, adeno and papovavirus infections. Derived from a male adult African green monkey kidney. Cells grow rapidly and form monolayers of fibroblast-like cells that support the growth of SV40. Chromosome number shifts have been observed at high passage levels.

Culture Medium

DMEM (D6546) + 2 mM L-Glutamine (G7513) + 10% FBS / FCS (F2442).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6, i.e., seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO₂; 37 °C.
