General description

Anti-Vimentin antibody, Mouse monoclonal (mouse IgM isotype) is derived from the VIM-13.2 hybridoma produced by the fusion of mouse myeloma cells and splenocytes from a BALB/c mouse immunized with human foreskin fibroblast extract. Vimentin is a type III intermediate filaments (IF) expressed in a wide range of cell types. including, pancreatic precursor cells, fibroblasts and sertoli cells. It is also expressed in trophoblastic giant cells, neuronal precursor cells, lung epithelial cells, renal tubular and stromal cells. Vimentin is also present in leucocytes, macrophages, neutrophils and mesangial cells.

Immunogen

human foreskin fibroblast extract

Application

Anti-Vimentin antibody, Mouse monoclonal has been used in:
  • western blotting
  • indirect immunofluorescence
  • immunohistochemistry

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vimentin plays a significant role in supporting and anchoring the cellular position of organelles, such as nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria (either laterally or terminally). It helps to maintain the mesenchymal cells especially their shape, motility, survival during of mechanical stress. Epithelial cancers like prostate, breast, lung show an increased vimentin expression. Vimentin is also highly expressed in gastrointestinal tumors, central nervous system tumors and malignant melanoma.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
