メチレンブルー（MB）は、広く知られている組織学的色素です。微生物学と薬理学で重要な役割を果たします。生体の染色とメトヘモグロビン血症の治療に使用されています。MBは664 nmで最大の吸収を示します。メチレンブルーに曝露すると、ヒトの心拍数増加、嘔吐、ショック、Heinz体形成、チアノーゼ、黄疸、四肢麻痺、組織壊死といった様々な健康障害が引き起こされます。
