General description

Native, chicken egg white lysozyme. Hydrolyzes β1,4 linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid (2-acetamido-2-deoxy-3-O-[1carboxymethyl]-glucopyranose) and N-acetyl-glucosamine residues in chitin. Also hydrolyzes β1,4 linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-glucosamine residues in peptidoglycans. Inhibits the biological activity of lipopolysaccharides from periodontopathic bacteria.

Unit Definition

One Shugar unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will cause a decrease in absorbance of 0.001 at 450 nm per min due to lysis of Micrococcus luteus at 25°C, pH 6.2.

Reconstitution

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long term storage or refrigerate (4°C) for short term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 3 days at 4°C or for up to 1 year at -20°C.
