General description

Cytoplasmic FMR1-interacting protein 1 (CYFIP1) is a member of the CYFIP family. It is a component of the CYFIP1-EIF4E-FMR1 complex, a regulatory complex for translational repression that binds to the mRNA cap. Within the complex, CYFIP1 serves as an adapter between the other two components and upregulates the translation repression activity of FMR1. It regulates epithelial morphogenesis, binds F-actin, and is a component in the development and formation of axon outgrowth, lamellipodia, protrusions, and membrane ruffles. Through its interaction with RAC1, CYFIP1 regulates the activity of WASP family members. CYFIP1 is associated with Prader-Willi/Angelman syndromes and may also have a role in autism.

Fructose-enriched diets cause salt-sensitive hypertension. Proximal tubules (PTs) reabsorb 70% of the water and salt filtered through the glomerulus. Angiotensin II (Ang II) regulates this process. Normally, dietary salt reduces Ang II allowing the kidney to excrete more salt, thereby
