General description

Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a cytokine that is thought to be connected to neurodegeneration and in central nervous system-mediated defense reactions to inflammation. Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1B) maintains mitogen-induced proliferation, IL-2 production and expression of IL-2R. IL-1 beta also seems to have the ability to boost the number of cells that move into the G1 phase of the cell cycle. IL-1 beta also has the capacity to stimulate apoptosis on normal human fetal membranes. IL-1 beta may play an important role in inflammation regulating cytokine networks.
