General description

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a mycotoxin, belonging to the class of aflatoxins, mainly produced by Aspergillus species, A. flavus or A. parasiticus. These toxic secondary metabolites are harmful to animal and human health. They can enter the food chain via contaminated crops and fruits or through processed food and feed products. Aflatoxin B1 can be found in agricultural products and food products including cereals, spices, nuts, fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, etc.

Application

Aflatoxin B1 may be used as reference material for the quantification of the analyte in peanuts, grain samples and red pepper using analytical techniques.

Aflatoxins (AF) are ubiquitous in corn-based animal feed and causes hepatotoxic and hepatocarcinogenic effects. The most important AF in terms of toxic potency and occurrence is aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). Poultry, especially turkeys, are extremely sensitive to the toxic and carcinogenic
