General description

Transferrin is an 80 kDa serum glycoprotein,[1] which is expressed in hepatocytes.[2] The gene is located on human chromosome 3q22.1.[3]
Optiferrin is recombinant human transferrin that is completelyblood-free. Optiferrin’s performance is equivalent to human holo transferrin incell culture and offers significant regulatory advantages due to its safety andconsistency. Optiferrin is suitable for a broad range of cell types thatinclude stem, primary, and bioproduction cells.

Application

Transferrin Human has been used to perform immunoprecipitation measurements.[4] It has also been used for the preparation of essential 8 medium.[5][6]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Human transferrin was shown to promote allogeneic chimerism in mice after irradiation and transplantation of incompatible bone marrow. [7]
Transferrin facilitates the transfer of iron to erythron and peripheral tissues.[8] It stimulates the proliferation of human lymphocytes.[9] Mutations in this gene are linked to atransferrinemia.[10]
