Gene Information
human ... FGF20(26281)
General description
The gene FGF20 (fibroblast growth factor 20) is mapped to human chromosome 8p22-p21.3. It is strongly expressed in the substantia nigra of the brain. It is also expressed during early embryonic development. FGF20 belongs to the FGF class of genes.
Biochem/physiol Actions
FGF20 (fibroblast growth factor 20) is a neurotrophin which plays an important role in growth and survival of neurons. It is mainly required for the survival of dopaminergic cells. It plays an important role in central nervous development and function. FGF20 interacts with the tyrosine kinase FGF receptor-1 (FGFR1). Mutation in FGF20 (rs12720208) is associated with the susceptibility of Parkinson′s disease. It is also a putative proto-oncogene. It is required for maintaining the Wnt/β-catenin pathway-mediated anchorage-independent cellular growth.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 20 mM Tris, pH 7.6, containing 1.5 M NaCl.
Reconstitution
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1 to 1.0 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
