硫酸マグネシウム（MgSO4）は細菌用M63最小培地における培地添加物として使用されています。
無水MgSO4は3,6-ビス（3,4′-ジヘキシル-2,2′-ビチオフェン-5-イル）-1,2,4,5-テトラジンおよびA-D-A（D = 供与体、A = 受容体）構造をもつ有機分子の合成において、乾燥剤として機能します。
また硫酸触媒存在下で、カルボン酸またはアルコールとt-ブタノールの反応によるt-ブチルエステルおよびエーテルの合成において、追加試薬として使用できる可能性があります。
